Chocolate Birthday Cake
- 8 tbsp (1 stick) butter, softened
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 None eggs
- 1 1/2 cups self-rising flour
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- None None White and semi-sweet chocolate, for decoration
- None None FOR THE CHOCOLATE ICING
- 4 tbsp (1/2 stick) butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 tbsp milk
- Preheat the oven to 350u0b0F. Grease a deep 8-inch round cake pan; line bottom with parchment paper.
- Combine butter, vanilla extract, granulated sugar, eggs, 2/3 cup water and sifted flour and cocoa powder in large bowl. Beat on low speed with electric mixer until ingredients are combined.
- Increase speed to medium. Beat about 4 mins or until mixture is smooth and paler in color. Pour mixture into prepared pan.
- Bake about 1 hour until toothpick inserted into center comes out clean. Cool in pan 5 mins. Remove from pan; cool completely on wire rack.
- For the chocolate icing, beat all ingredients in a medium bowl until light and fluffy. Spread cooled cake with icing.
- Using vegetable peeler, peel sides of both chocolates to create curls. Sprinkle cake with chocolate curls.
