Cincinnati Chili
- 2 lb. ground beef
- 1 qt. water
- 2 medium onions, chopped finely
- 2 (8 oz.) cans tomato sauce
- 1/2 tsp. ground red pepper
- 1 tsp. cumin powder
- 4 Tbsp. chili powder
- 1/2 oz. (1/2 sq.) unsweetened chocolate
- 4 garlic cloves
- 2 Tbsp. vinegar
- 1 large bay leaf
- 5 whole cloves
- 2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- In a 4-quart saucepot, add ground beef and water.
- Stir until beef separates to a fine texture.
- Boil for 1/2 hour.
- Add all ingredients and bring to a boil, uncovered.
- Stir to blend.
- Reduce heat and simmer, still uncovered, for 3 hours.
- During last hour, pot may be covered, if it has reached desired consistency.
- Makes 8 servings.
