Fields Of Play Cake
- 2 pkg (16 oz each) cake mix, any flavor
- 8 tbsp (1 stick) butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp milk
- None None Green food color
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- None None White and black decorating gel
- 7 None lollipop sticks
- 1 strip (16 inches) red fruit roll-ups
- None None Assorted sporting toys
- Preheat the oven to 350u0b0F. Grease a deep 14 x 10-inch baking pan; line bottom and sides with parchment paper, extending paper 2 inches above sides for handles.
- Prepare cake mixes according to package directions. Spread mixture in prepared pan. Bake for 1 hour, or until a skewer inserted into center comes out clean. Cool in pan 10 mins. Remove from pan; cool completely on wire rack.
- For the buttercream, beat butter with an electric mixer until the butter is as white as possible (this will result in a whiter buttercream which will give you better results if coloring it). Gradually beat in half the sifted powdered sugar, then the milk, then the remaining powdered sugar. Beat until buttercream is smooth and spreadable. Keep scraping down the side of the bowl during beating.
- Level cake top. Secure cake, cut-side down, on cake board, with a little buttercream. Tint remaining buttercream green with food color; spread all over cake.
- Combine granulated sugar and food color in small plastic bag. Rub together until sugar is evenly colored. Sprinkle top of cake with green sugar.
- To decorate, use white decorating gel to pipe lines on field, using picture as a guide. Pipe black decorating gel around lollipop sticks for corner posts. Wrap thin strips of red fruit roll-ups around lollipop sticks for goal posts.
- Decorate with toy balls, equipment and goal posts, as desired.
