Baked Doughnuts
- 1/4 cups butter
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 cups all-purpose flour, plus extra for dusting
- 1/2 cup sugar
- Pinch None salt
- 0.25 oz packet dried yeast
- 1 egg beaten, plus 1 egg white
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 cups powdered sugar, plus extra for dusting
- Melt the butter in a saucepan. Stir in the milk, then remove from the heat.
- Place the flour, sugar, salt and yeast in a bowl. Add the beaten egg, vanilla extract and butter mixture. Mix the ingredients using the dough hook of a stand mixer.
- Cover the bowl with a clean towel and leave in a warm place for 1 1/2 hours to rise.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface. Divide into 10 large and 10 smaller pieces. Roll into a cylinder shape, then bend to create rings, securing the ends with a little water.
- Place the rings on two separate greased sheet trays, cover with clean towels. Leave to rise in a warm place for 20 mins. Preheat the oven to 350u0b0F. Bake for 15-20 mins (place the smaller rings on the lower shelf). Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- To make the icing, whisk the powdered sugar and egg whites until smooth. If the icing is too thick, add a little water. Divide the icing into 3 bowls, leave one bowl white, and dye the remaining two bowls pink and blue. Use to decorate the doughnuts. Dust with powdered sugar just before serving.
