Our Favorite Oatmeal Bread

  1. Combine oats, wheat flour, sugar, salt and margarine in a large bowl.
  2. Pour boiling water over this.
  3. In a separate bowl dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup warm water.
  4. When batter is cooled to lukewarm, add yeast.
  5. Stir in 5 cups flour and knead 5 to 10 minutes.
  6. Place in a greased bowl, cover and let rise until doubled in size.
  7. Punch down and let rise again.
  8. Shape into 2 loaves and place in greased 9 x 5 x 3-inch pans.
  9. Bake at 350u0b0 for 30 to 40 minutes.
  10. Cool on a rack, brushing loaves with margarine for a soft crust.
