Braided Marzipan And Almond Bread
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 1/2 tbsp active dry yeast
- 3/4 cup lukewarm milk
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 3 1/2 tbsp butter, melted
- 2 None eggs
- 7 oz marzipan
- 1 cup powdered sugar + 2 tbsp
- 2 tbsp apricot jam
- Combine flour, yeast and warm milk. Cover and set aside in a warm place for 15 mins. Add granulated sugar, vanilla extract, butter, 1 egg and a pinch of salt and knead until smooth. Cover and set aside in a warm place for another 30 mins.
- Preheat oven to 400u0b0F. Roll out dough into a 16 x 20 inch rectangle. Mix marzipan, 1 egg and 2 tbsp powdered sugar until crumbly then sprinkle over dough. Roll up from the long side, cut in 1/2 lengthwise then braid the 2 halves together. Transfer to a baking tray lined with parchment paper, let rest for 15 mins then bake for about 35 mins.
- Heat jam then strain. Mix with remaining powdered sugar and 3 tbsp water. Spread over the bread and sprinkle with powdered sugar. Let cool before slicing.
