Spiced Fruit Chutney
- 2 None onions, chopped
- 4 None apples, peeled, cored, chopped
- 4 None pears, peeled, cored, chopped
- 2 cups malt vinegar
- 6 oz pitted dates, chopped
- 1 1/4 cups sugar
- 2 oz dried cranberries
- 2 oz raisins
- 1 tsp mustard powder
- 1 tsp ground ginger
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
- None None crusty bread, ham, pickled onions, salad and Cheddar cheese, to serve
- Place onions in a large saucepan with 1/2 cup water. Bring to a boil on high. Reduce heat. Simmer for 10-15 mins, until onion is tender. Add apples and pears. Simmer for 10-15 more mins, stirring occasionally, until liquid has thickened slightly and fruit is tender. Stir in remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer 25-30 mins, until thick. Remove from heat and cool 10 mins.
- Serve with crusty bread, ham, pickled onions, salad and Cheddar cheese or pour into warm sterilized jars and seal immediately. Store jars in a cool, dry place and chill once opened.
