Toffee Pears With Chocolate Candy Ice Cream
- 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
- 2 tsp finely grated orange peel
- 1/4 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
- 4 None pears, peeled, cored, cut into wedges
- 4 scoops vanilla ice cream
- 1/4 cup candy coated chocolates, such as M&Ms, crushed
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder, sifted
- 1/3 cup powdered sugar
- Place granulated sugar, orange peel and juice, and 1/2 cup water in a large deep skillet. Cook and stir on low heat for 2 mins or until sugar dissolves. Increase heat to high; bring to a boil. Boil, uncovered, without stirring, for 3 mins or until slightly syrupy. Add pears; cook for 6 mins or until pears are tender and toffee is rich brown. Remove from heat.
- Meanwhile, let ice cream stand in a bowl at room temperature for 5 mins to soften slightly. Add chocolate candies; stir to combine. Freeze for 15 mins or until firm.
- Combine cocoa, powdered sugar and 1 cup water in a small saucepan. Bring to a simmer on low heat. Increase heat to medium; simmer for 5 mins or until thickened slightly.
- Divide toffee pears among shallow serving bowls. Drizzle with chocolate sauce. Serve topped with scoops of ice cream.
