Strawberry Charlotte Russe

  1. Cut jelly roll into 1/2-inch slices and place around the bottom and sides of an oiled 2 1/2-quart mixing bowl.
  2. In another container, dissolve gelatin in hot water.
  3. Add marshmallows and partially defrosted strawberries, stirring until marshmallows dissolve.
  4. Add lemon juice.
  5. Chill until partially congealed; beat until fluffy.
  6. Beat egg whites until soft peaks form.
  7. Gradually beat in sugar.
  8. Fold into gelatin mixture.
  9. Blend in whipped cream and nuts.
  10. Pile mixture lightly into jelly roll-lined bowl.
  11. Chill until firm.
  12. Unmold and serve.
  13. Yields 10 to 12 servings.
