Cheddar And Onion Quiche

  1. To make the dough, melt 3 tbsp of the butter and the shortnening in a saucepan with 1/3 cup of water. Meanwhile, sift the flour into a mixing bowl, then pour in the melted fat. Using a food processor or your hands, mix until a dough is formed. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate.
  2. Heat the rest of the butter in a pan and saute the onions, turning, until they are translucent. Next, beat the eggs in a bowl, then stir in the milk, cheese and the cooked onions.
  3. Preheat oven to 350u0b0F. Roll the dough out onto a floured work surface so it is about an 1/8 inch thick. Grease a 9 inch tart pan and dust it with flour. Place the dough in the pan and press it into the corners and ensuring that there is no air underneath. Spread the breadcrumbs over the bottom of the dough, then pour in the filling. Bake for about 50 mins. Just before serving, sprinkle the tart with the chopped chives.
