Karen Leonard'S Spice Cookies

  1. Sift and measure flour; add salt, cream of tarter, baking soda, nutmeg and cinnamon.
  2. Sift together.
  3. In separate bowl, cream shortening and sugar.
  4. Add 1 egg and beat until creamy. Stir in milk and vanilla.
  5. Gradually add flour mixture.
  6. Chill in refrigerator about 2 hours or until easy to handle.
  7. Roll dough on floured surface to 1/4-inch or 1/8-inch thick.
  8. Cut with cookie cutters.
  9. Place on greased cookie sheet.
  10. Brush cut outs with beaten egg white and sprinkle with sugar, if desired.
  11. Bake at 375u0b0 for 10 minutes.
