Chocolate Caramel Brownies
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 stick butter, cubed
- 5 oz dark chocolate, chopped
- 1/2 cup hot water
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup self-raising flour
- 1/3 cup cocoa powder, plus more for dusting
- 1 large egg, lightly beaten
- 13 oz can dulce de leche or caramel, mixed well
- Preheat oven to 350u0b0F. Lightly grease an 7 x 11-inch pan. Line base and sides with parchment.
- In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, butter, chocolate and water. Stir over low heat for 4-5 minutes, until smooth. Transfer mixture to a medium bowl. Let cool for 10 minutes.
- Sift flours and cocoa together. Fold into the chocolate mixture along with the egg until well combined.
- Spoon half the mixture into prepared pan. Drizzle with caramel. Carefully cover with remaining cake mixture.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes, until cooked when tested. Let cool in pan for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely. Cut into squares. Dust with cocoa. Store in an airtight container.
