Applesauce Muffins
- 2 sticks margarine (soft)
- 2 c. sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 4 c. flour
- 2 tsp. cloves
- 1 tsp. allspice
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 2 tsp. soda
- 2 c. applesauce
- 1 c. chopped pecans (optional)
- 2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 4 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. cream of tartar
- 3/4 tsp. salt (scant measurement) *
- 3/4 c. butter flavor Crisco, well chilled*
- 3/4 c. + 1 1/2 Tbsp. milk, well chilled*
- 1 egg, well chilled and slightly beaten
- *If substituting butter or margarine for the butter flavor Crisco, reduce milk to only 3/4 cup and reduce amount of salt to 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon.
