Beef Lasagna

  1. Preheat oven to 400u0b0F. Grease a 10 inch deep baking dish.
  2. Heat 1 tbsp oil in a saucepan over high heat. Brown beef for 5 mins. Set aside. Add remaining oil. Saute onion, carrot, celery and bacon for 5 mins, or until soft. Return beef and resting juices to pan. Add tomato puree and 1/2 cup water. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer, covered, stirring occasionally, for 1 hour. Uncover and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 30 mins, or until beef is tender and sauce thickens. Season.
  3. Spread a little bechamel over prepared dish. Top with 3 1/2 sheets of lasagna, 1/3 of beef mixture and some bechamel. Repeat layers twice more. Top with 3 1/2 sheets of lasagna and remaining bechamel. Sprinkle with cheese and bake for 45 mins, or until golden and pasta is tender when tested with a skewer.
