Spiced Beef Pirozhki
- 1/2 lb ground beef
- 2 tbsp flour
- 8 oz can sliced water chestnuts, drained and finely chopped
- 1 tbsp sesame seeds, toasted
- 2 None spring onions, finely chopped
- 1 clove garlic, crushed
- 1 tsp Chinese five-spice powder
- 1 None large egg, lightly beaten
- 1/2 cup plus 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 3 None sheets frozen puff pastry, thawed
- 1 None small red chili pepper, thinly sliced
- Preheat oven to 425u0b0F. Grease and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. For the filling, combine beef, flour, water chestnut, sesame seeds, onion, garlic, five-spice powder, egg and 2 tbsp soy sauce in a medium bowl. Mix well and divide into 12 portions.
- To assemble, cut each pastry sheet into 4 squares. Place 1 portion of the filling in the center of each square, gather pastry around filing and pinch to enclose and form a bag. Place on prepared baking sheet and bake for 18-20 mins or until puffed and golden.
- For the dipping sauce, mix together the remaining soy sauce and chili pepper. Serve with the pirozhki.
