Chocolate Cake
- 2 sq. unsweetened chocolate
- 1/4 c. sweet butter
- pinch of salt
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 c. flour
- 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 c. buttermilk
- 3/4 tsp. baking soda
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- Sift together flour and baking powder.
- Melt butter with 1/2 cup water, chocolate and sugar on low heat until all ingredients are combined.
- Remove from heat; transfer to a large mixing bowl. Add sifted dry ingredients to melted mixture; mix thoroughly. Combine buttermilk and baking soda; make sure soda is dissolved. Add to main mixture.
- Combine eggs and vanilla; add to main mixture.
- Put mixture into greased and floured 8-inch cake pan. Bake in preheated moderate oven for 25 to 35 minutes.
- Cool thoroughly, then ice.
