Pocono Style Apple Dumplings
- For Dough
- 1/2 cup warm milk
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 1 egg, beaten
- 2 cups flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/4 teaspoons instant yeast
- For Apple Filling
- 2 apples, chopped
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- For Syrup
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 cup apple cider or 1 cup apple juice
- Add ingredients into bread maker and use 'Dough' function. Divide in half and roll out into circles. Slice circles into 3 pie shaped wedges.
- Mix apples, sugar cinnamon and nutmeg.
- Melt butter, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon and apple cider or juice over a medium low flame. Stir well and cook for about 5 minutes until thick. Be careful not to burn mixture.
- Fill each triangle with apple mix and pinch in the edges to create a triangular dumpling. Grease a medium baking dish and line the dumplings at the bottom. When they all fit, pour the syrup ontop.
- Bake in an oven preheated to 350F for 20-30 minutes, basting every ten minutes or so. Depending on your oven they might be done sooner - check to see them golden on top then remove - they should be slightly undercooked at the bottom.
