Old Time Fruit Cake
- 1 pkg. dates, cut up
- 1 pkg. figs, cut up
- 2 boxes raisins
- 1 jar mincemeat
- 4 boxes mixed candied fruit
- 2 lb. butter
- 3 c. brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 pt. wine or whiskey
- 1 pkg. coconut
- 1 c. cooked and seasoned apples
- 1 pt. jam
- 1 pt. preserves
- 6 eggs
- 2 tsp. each: cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and allspice
- 5 lb. flour
- 1 c. chopped nuts
- Mix all fruit with wine or whiskey. Let stand overnight. Mix in the a.m. all other ingredients and last add the flour. Mix with hands until it will drop from your hands. Bake in tube pan lined with brown paper that is greased well; might want to use waxed paper. Bake slowly, about 250u0b0 oven. Place a pan of water on lower rack so cake can steam for about 3 hours. Then remove pan of water. Turn heat to 300u0b0. Let cake dry out for about 1 hour.
