  1. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Beat eggs. Add eggs and vanilla to sugar mixture.
  3. Sift flour, salt and soda onto wax paper.
  4. Add sifted dry ingredients gradually to the egg mixture and mix thoroughly.
  5. Add pecans if desired.
  6. Press dough together and shape into long rolls about 2 inches in diameter. Wrap in wax paper.
  7. Chill overnight until firm.
  8. Cut dough into thin, uniform slices about 1/8-inch thick.
  9. Place about 1 inch apart on ungreased baking sheet.
  10. Bake at 375u0b0 for 10 to 12 minutes or until lightly browned.
  11. Remove cookies from baking sheet with spatula.
  12. Cool on cake rack.
