Val'S Beef Stew

  1. Put meat in pan and brown in some oil.
  2. Add barley, onions, carrots and potatoes.
  3. Add enough water to cover with 2 inches more, add beef bouillon and tomato sauce.
  4. Bring to a boil, turn heat down and simmer for 1 to 1-1/2 hours.
  5. When the potatoes and carrots are almost done add canned or frozen vegetables of choice. Let cook to a boil again and then add the instant potatoes to the consistency you want.
  6. Season to taste with salt, pepper, seasoning salt, garlic salt, onion salt and add a little love!
  7. If you don't have instant potatoes you can take 1 cup cold water and mix about 2-3 TBSP flour or corn starch to thicken.
  8. Add to mixture when it boils again.
  9. I like to make some biscuits or cornbread to serve with it.
  10. It is also good with some sliced cheese or jelly for the biscuits.
  11. This is a great recipe to do in the crock pot.
