Dutch Easter Men
- 1 pkg. dry yeast
- 1/4 c. warm water
- 1/2 c. sugar
- about 6 c. all-purpose flour
- 9 eggs
- 4 Tbsp. oleo or butter
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 3/4 c. milk
- Dissolve yeast.
- Melt butter.
- Mix with cold milk and add to the yeast.
- Stir in salt and flour.
- Cover bowl and let rise 1/2 hour.
- Knead until smooth.
- Divide into 8 portions.
- Shape each piece into oblong roll 5 inches long.
- Place egg on the roll, a little above center.
- Cut slits at 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 o'clock. Pull the dough and shape arms and legs.
- Put arms over and across the egg.
- Place on greased cookie sheets and cover with kitchen towel.
- Let rise, covered, until doubled in size.
- Bake at 350u0b0 to 375u0b0 until lightly browned.
- If you take them out of the oven too soon, the egg will not be cooked.
- Be sure they are browned, not burned!
- Can be frosted and/or decorated.
- Makes a cute little egg man that can be your lunch!
- Can use raisins for eyes.
