Chocolate Pie Imperial
- 1 c. sugar
- 1/3 c. cornstarch
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 c. milk
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1 (6 oz.) pkg. semi-sweet chocolate pieces
- 2 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1/2 pt. (1 c.) dairy sour cream
- 1 (9-inch) pastry shell
- whipped cream topping or garnish (if desired)
- Combine sugar, cornstarch and salt in saucepan.
- Stir in milk. Cook over hot heat, stirring constantly, until thick.
- Remove from heat.
- Gradually stir at least half of hot mixture into eggs. Then blend into hot mixture in saucepan.
- Cook 1 minute.
- Remove from heat.
- Add chocolate pieces and stir until melted.
- Stir in flavorings.
- Cook to lukewarm, stirring occasionally.
- Blend sour cream into chocolate mixture.
