Grandma'S Fruit Cake
- 1 lb. butter
- 9 eggs, separated
- 3/4 tsp. cloves (ground)
- 3/4 tsp. mace
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 lb. currants
- 1 lb. nuts (pecans)
- 1/2 lb. candied orange peel
- 1/2 lb. candied cherries
- 1 lb. candied pineapple
- 1/2 tsp. ???
- 1 lb. light brown sugar
- 1 lb. flour (all-purpose)
- 3/4 tsp. nutmeg
- 2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/4 c. milk
- 1 lb. seedless raisins
- 1/2 lb. citron
- Wash raisins and currants; chop nuts and fruits.
- Dredge fruit in half the flour.
- Cream butter and sugar.
- Add beaten egg yolks. Sift remaining flour with other dry ingredients.
- Add milk and dry ingredients alternately to cake batter.
- Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites.
- Add nuts and fruits; mix thoroughly.
- Bake approximately 4 hours at 275u0b0.
