Chocolate Cream Pie

  1. Melt chocolate in double boiler.
  2. Add 1 1/2 cups milk and bring to boiling point.
  3. Combine sugar, salt and cornstarch.
  4. Add remaining milk to make a smooth paste.
  5. Add paste to milk and cook until thickened.
  6. Beat egg yolks.
  7. Pour a small amount of hot mixture over yolks before adding them to milk.
  8. Cook 2 minutes. Remove from heat and add butter and vanilla.
  9. Cook until lukewarm and pour into baked pie shell.
  10. Cover with meringue of egg whites, cream of tartar and 1/4 cup sugar.
  11. Bake at 350u0b0 until meringue is browned.
