Pine Tree Shillings

  1. In a large bowl cream together molasses, brown sugar, and lard.
  2. In a small bowl combine flour, cinnamon, ginger, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Blend the flour mixture into the creamed mixture.
  4. Divide into 6 portions.
  5. On lightly floured surface, shape each portion into 10-inch long rolls (total of six 10-inch rolls).
  6. Wrap each; chill several hours.
  7. Slice each roll into pieces a little more than 1/4-inch thick.
  8. Place on greased cookie sheet.
  9. Press each cookie with thumb until about 1/8-inch thick.
  10. Bake at 350 degree F.
  11. for 5 to 8 minutes.
