Quaker Vanishing Oatmeal Rising Cookies
- 1 c. (2 sticks) margarine or butter, softened
- 1 c. firmly packed brown sugar
- 1/2 c. granulated sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt (optional)
- 3 c. Quaker oats (Quick and Old Fashioned), uncooked
- 1 c. Sun-Maid raisins
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1/2 c. dark molasses
- 1/4 c. water
- 2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour*
- 3/4 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. soda
- 3/4 tsp. ginger
- 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
- 1/8 tsp. allspice
- raisins
- candied cherries or red gumdrops
- citron
- string licorice
- decorators' icing
- Cream shortening and sugar.
- Blend in molasses, water, flour, salt, soda, ginger, nutmeg and allspice.
- Cover and chill 2 to 3 hours.
