Bread And Butter Pickles

  1. Slice cucumbers, onions and peppers.
  2. Combine vegetables with garlic and salt; cover with crushed ice.
  3. Mix thoroughly.
  4. Allow to stand at room temperature 3 hours; rinse and drain well. Discard garlic.
  5. Heat remaining ingredients in large saucepan to boiling.
  6. Add vegetables; heat to boiling.
  7. Remove; fill hot sterilized pint jars with hot vegetables and liquid, leaving 1/2-inch headspace.
  8. Seal and process in boiling water bath for 15 minutes.
  9. Makes about 4 pints.
