Mocha Chip Cookies
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1/2 c. butter or margarine, softened
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1/2 c. sifted powdered sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 1/2 tsp. instant coffee granules
- 1 1/2 tsp. water
- 2 1/4 c. all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 3 Tbsp. cocoa
- 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
- 1 c. milk chocolate morsels
- 2/3 c. chopped pecans or walnuts

- Beat shortening and butter in a large mixing bowl at medium speed of an electric mixer until fluffy.
- Gradually add 1/2 cup sugar and powdered sugar, beating well.
- Add egg, beating well. Dissolve coffee granules in water; add to creamed mixture, beating well.
- Combine flour and next 4 ingredients; gradually add to creamed mixture, beating well.
- Stir in chocolate morsels and pecans.
- Cover and chill 1 hour.
- Shape into 1/2-inch balls; roll in additional sugar.
- Place on lightly greased cookie sheets. Press with a fork to flatten.
- Bake at 350u0b0 for 8 to 10 minutes or until lightly browned.
- Cool on wire racks.
- Yield:
- 6 1/2 dozen.
