Caramel Brownies
- 1 German chocolate cake mix
- 3/4 c. oleo, softened
- 1 pkg. (6 oz.) chocolate bits
- 2/3 c. evaporated milk
- 1 pkg. (14 oz.) caramels
- 1 pkg. pecans or walnuts
- Mix cake mix with 1/3 cup evaporated milk and oleo.
- The dough will be stiff.
- Melt unwrapped caramels with other 1/3 cup milk until smooth.
- Spread half of batter in rectangle baking pan with fingers in a greased pan.
- Bake at 350u0b0 for 6 minutes.
- Remove from oven, sprinkle chocolate chips over baked batter and pour melted caramel over that layer.
- Add nuts.
- Drop remaining batter on this. It will look strange.
- Bake for 15 to 18 minutes.
- No longer! Dough may not look done, but that's due to the melted caramels. Let it cool for a few minutes and then loosen around pan edges. Wait about an hour before cutting into squares.
