Meatballs With Onions(Dawood Basha)
- 1 lb. (1/2 kg) meat
- 1 lb. (1/2 kg) small onions
- 2 c. butter or Crisco
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. each: pepper and cinnamon
- 2 c. water
- 1 Tbsp. flour
- juice of 1 lemon
- 1 tsp. salt
- dash of pepper and cinnamon for broth
- 3 garlic cloves
- 1/2 tsp. dried mint
- Put meat through a meat grinder twice.
- Season the ground meat and knead it with your hands.
- Shape into one-inch balls and set aside.
- Brown the meatballs in oil.
- Drain and set aside.
- Peel the onions and saute in the remaining oil until golden.
- Drain. Place the meatballs and onions in a saucepan with the water, seasoning and lemon juice.
- Bring to the boil.
- Reduce heat and cook for 5 minutes.
- Brown the flour in half a cup of water, stirring constantly.
- Add the dissolved flour to the meat.
- Crush the garlic with the dried mint and add to the meat a few minutes before serving.
- Serve hot with boiled rice.
