Spicy Meatballs (Sri Lankan)

  1. ---------SAUCE-------.
  2. Heat oil in a sauce pan.
  3. Add mustard seeds and fenugreek.
  4. When they are brown, add chopped onion.
  5. Reduce heat, and fry onion till they are transparent.
  6. Add garlic and fry on very low heat for about 5 minutes.
  7. It is very important to fry garlic on VERY low heat.
  8. Add chillie powder and curry powder.
  9. Stir and cook about 1 minute.
  10. Add chopped tomatoes and cook on high heat for another 2 minutes.
  11. Add can of diced tomatoes, tomatoe paste and tomato ketchup.
  12. Put soup cube and adjust salt.
  13. Sprinkle sugar on top.
  14. Cover and SLOW cook till meat balls are ready.
  15. ------METHODMEAT BALLS------------.
  16. In a large bowl, mix all the ingredients using your hand.
  17. Break and mix the egg.
  18. Squeeze milk out of the slice of bread and mix with the meat mixture.
  19. Make lime size balls and fry all sides on low heat for about 15-20 minutes.
  20. When frying it is important to use a non-stick frying pan.
  21. Fry them till they are medium brown on all sides.
  22. Add one by one to the sauce mixture, using a slotted spoon.
  23. Cover and SLOW cook for about 30 minuteslonger the better.
  24. These meat balls are very good if you serve over steamed rice.
  25. If you serve on bed of spaghetti, the sauce should be bit thinner.
  26. To adjust the sauce for spaghetti add 1 cup of boiling water to the sauce.
  27. Do this just after adding meat balls.
  28. Check for salt.
  29. Cover and SLOW cook for about 30 minuteslonger the better.
