Turkey Chili
- 1 1/2 lb. ground turkey
- 3 medium onions, chopped
- 1/2 tsp. instant minced garlic
- 2 (15 oz. each) cans tomatoes
- 1 (15 oz.) can tomato sauce
- 1 (14 1/2 oz.) can chicken broth
- 1 medium green pepper, seeded and chopped
- 1 medium red pepper, seeded and chopped
- 1 medium yellow pepper, seeded and chopped
- 2 (4 oz. each) cans diced green chilies, drained
- 2 tart apples, chopped
- 3 Tbsp. chili powder
- 2 Tbsp. cocoa
- 1 1/2 tsp. curry powder
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 2 Tbsp. bottled hot pepper sauce
- 2 (15 oz. each) cans kidney beans, drained
- 1 c. slivered almonds
- shredded cheese (optional)
- Cook turkey, onions and garlic in Dutch oven over medium flame; drain.
- Add remaining ingredients except kidney beans, almonds and cheese.
- Bring to a boil over high flame.
- Reduce flame to simmer, cover and cook 1 hour.
- Add kidney beans and almonds.
- Simmer an additional 30 minutes.
- Garnish with shredded cheese, if desired.
- Makes 8 to 10 servings.
