Oatmeal Cookies

  1. Cream shortening and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating thoroughly.
  2. Add vanilla and salt.
  3. Pour boiling water over raisins and let stand a few minutes.
  4. Drain.
  5. Add to creamed shortening mixture.
  6. Dissolve soda in milk and add alternately with flour to creamed shortening mixture.
  7. Add oatmeal.
  8. Blend all ingredients thoroughly.
  9. Drop by teaspoonfuls on greased 10 x 14-inch cookie sheet.
  10. Bake at 375u0b0 for 12 to 15 minutes.
  11. Remove from pan to cake cooler immediately after baking.
  12. Makes 3 1/2 to 4 dozen cookies.
