Caramel Nut Brownies
- 1 (14 oz.) bag caramels, unwrapped
- 2/3 c. evaporated milk
- 1 (2-layer) German chocolate cake mix
- 1/2 c. margarine, melted
- 1 1/2 c. walnuts, pecans or peanuts, chopped
- 6 oz. (1 c.) semi-sweet chocolate chips
- Melt caramels with 1/3 cup milk over low heat, stirring until smooth.
- (May melt in microwave if desired.)
- In mixing bowl, combine remaining 1/3 cup milk with cake mix and margarine; mix well.
- Press half of cake mixture into bottom of greased 9 x 13-inch cake pan.
- Bake at 350u0b0 for 6 minutes.
- Sprinkle 1 cup nuts and 1 cup chocolate chips over crust.
- Top with caramel mixture, spreading caramel to edges of pan.
- Top with spoonfuls of remaining cake mixture; press gently into caramel mixtures. Sprinkle with remaining nuts, pressing lightly into top.
- Bake at 350u0b0 for an additional 20 minutes.
- Cool before cutting.
