Ham Strata
- 16 slices white bread (with or without crusts)
- butter or margarine
- 2 lb. chopped ham
- 2 c. grated cheese (Cheddar recommended but Muenster or Monterey Jack may be used)
- 5 beaten eggs
- 1/4 tsp. dry mustard
- 3 c. milk
- 2 c. crushed corn flakes (optional)
- 1 onion (optional)
- Butter both sides of bread slices.
- Place 8 slices in 10 x 13-inch pan.
- Add half the ham and cheese.
- Top with remaining 8 slices of bread and cover with remaining ham and cheese.
- Mix eggs, milk and mustard together and pour mixture over layered dish. Refrigerate overnight.
- Bake at 325u0b0 for one hour or until top is golden brown.
- If desired, mix crushed corn flakes with melted butter and sprinkle over casserole before baking.
- May be made 1 to 2 days ahead.
- Chopped onion may be added to ham and cheese.
