Broccoli Onion Casserole

  1. Cook and drain broccoli; set aside.
  2. Cook onion in boiling salted water 10 minutes or until tender.
  3. Set aside to drain. Melt 2 tablespoons butter; add flour, salt and pepper.
  4. Add milk. Cook and stir until thick and bubbly.
  5. Continue stirring and cook 2 more minutes.
  6. Add cream cheese and stir until melted.
  7. Stir in broccoli and onion.
  8. When combined, turn into a 1 1/2-quart casserole.
  9. Top with American cheese.
  10. Melt 2 tablespoons butter and toss with bread crumbs and sprinkle over casserole.
  11. Bake in a 350u0b0 oven for 35 to 40 minutes.
  12. Makes 8 servings.
