Pfeffernuesse Cookies

  1. Heat honey into a 4-quart saucepan until thin and hot (do not boil).
  2. Stir in butter; cool to lukewarm.
  3. Beat egg into honey mixture.
  4. Sift flour with salt, baking powder, baking soda, nutmeg, allspice, cardamon and pepper.
  5. Blend in crushed anise seed.
  6. Stir into honey mixture.
  7. (Dough will be sticky.) Refrigerate 30 minutes to 1 hour or until dough is easy to handle. Shape into 3/4-inch balls.
  8. Put on lightly greased cookie sheets. Bake at 350u0b0 for 13 to 15 minutes.
  9. Cool on a rack.
