Pfeffernuesse Cookies
- 1 1/2 c. honey
- 1/4 c. butter
- 1 egg
- 4 c. sifted all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. nutmeg
- 1 tsp. allspice
- 3/4 tsp. cardamon
- 1/2 tsp. black pepper
- 1/4 tsp. finely crushed anise seed
- Honey Glaze (recipe follows)
- Heat honey into a 4-quart saucepan until thin and hot (do not boil).
- Stir in butter; cool to lukewarm.
- Beat egg into honey mixture.
- Sift flour with salt, baking powder, baking soda, nutmeg, allspice, cardamon and pepper.
- Blend in crushed anise seed.
- Stir into honey mixture.
- (Dough will be sticky.) Refrigerate 30 minutes to 1 hour or until dough is easy to handle. Shape into 3/4-inch balls.
- Put on lightly greased cookie sheets. Bake at 350u0b0 for 13 to 15 minutes.
- Cool on a rack.
