Real Texas Chili(No Heartburn)
- 3 lb. ground beef
- 3 Tbsp. vegetable oil
- 2 to 3 cloves garlic
- 4 to 5 Tbsp. chili powder
- 2 tsp. ground cumin
- 3 Tbsp. flour
- 1 Tbsp. leaf oregano
- 2 cans beef broth (13 3/4 oz.)
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. pepper
- 1 can chili beans (optional)
- 1 can refried beans (optional)
- In a 4-quart pot, cook beef until it changes color, but does not brown.
- Lower heat.
- Stir in garlic.
- Combine chili powder, cumin and flour.
- Sprinkle over meat.
- Add 1 1/2 cans beef broth. Stir.
- Add salt and pepper.
- Bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat.
- Simmer about 30 minutes, stirring frequently.
- Add remaining broth and cook 15 minutes more.
- Add the refried beans and chili beans.
- If too thick, add a little water and cook 15 minutes more.
