California Chili
- 1 1/2 lb. lean beef (stew or sirloin)
- 1/2 lb. lean pork, ground
- 1 large onion
- 1 large green or red bell pepper
- 1 Tbsp. crushed red pepper
- 12 oz. can ginger ale (2)
- 3 oz. chili powder (2/3 c.)
- 1/4 c. hot Mexican salsa
- 2 to 3 small jalapenos, diced
- 1 large clove garlic, diced
- 10 oz. tomato sauce
- 10 oz. hot or mild enchilada sauce
- 4 oz. green chilies, diced
- 1/3 c. masa flour
- 1/2 tsp. cayenne pepper
- Into heavy, deep pot, add meat with a little bacon drippings. Cook until meat is brown.
- Add onion, bell pepper, garlic, crushed red pepper, tomato sauce, enchilada sauce and ginger ale.
- Cook on medium heat for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add more ginger ale if liquid is needed.
