Upside-Down Sausage Pie
- 1 lb. roll sausage
- 2 medium-sized onions, sliced thinly into rings
- 1 (10 1/2 oz.) can condensed tomato soup
- 2 c. all-purpose flour, sifted
- 4 level teaspoons baking powder
- 1/3 c. margarine
- 3/4 c. milk
- Cut or shape sausage into patties.
- Placed in an unheated skillet.
- Cook over low heat until patties are well browned.
- Pour off excess fat as it accumulates.
- Be sure patties are well cooked and place in casserole dish.
- Brown the onion rings in a small amount of sausage drippings.
- Place fried onions over sausage patties in casserole dish and add undiluted tomato soup.
- Sift all dry ingredients in a mixing bowl; blend in margarine.
- Add milk to make a soft, but not sticky, dough.
- Turn onto a floured board and pat out to size that fits casserole dish.
- Place on top of meat mixture.
- Bake in 400u0b0 oven for 15 to 20 minutes.
- Biscuit dough should be well browned and done throughout.
- Place on platter so that meat mixture is on top.
- Serve hot.
- Makes 6 servings.
