Sweet And Sour Steak
- 2 lb. steak (2/3 or 3/4-inch thick)
- 1 Tbsp. oil
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/8 tsp. pepper
- 1/8 tsp. dry mustard
- 2 tsp. minced onion
- 1/2 c. water
- 3 Tbsp. vinegar
- 11 oz. can mandarin orange sections
- 1 small can pineapple chunks (reserving 3 Tbsp. liquid)
- 3 Tbsp. brown sugar
- 1 Tbsp. cornstarch
- Brown steak on both sides in oil in frying pan.
- Combine salt, pepper, dry mustard, minced onion, water and vinegar and pour over steak.
- Cover tightly and cook about 1 1/2 hours over low heat. Drain orange sections and pineapple chunks, reserving 3 tablespoons liquid and blend in brown sugar and cornstarch.
- Put steak on platter to keep warm.
- Put fruit and sugar mixture in pan with drippings and cook 2 or 3 minutes.
- Pour over meat and serve.
