Aunt Grace'S Whole Wheat Bread
- 2 pkg. yeast
- 2 c. warm water
- 1 scant c. sugar
- 3 tsp. salt
- 1 c. Crisco
- 1 c. hot water
- 3 eggs
- 4 c. all-purpose flour
- 4 c. whole wheat flour
- Cream sugar,
- salt
- and shortening; pour hot water over and stir
- until
- blended
- and
- dissolved.
- Cool.
- Meanwhile, sprinkle yeast
- over
- warm water (sprinkle a little sugar over to make yeast foam more quickly).
- Beat eggs, which have been at room temperature
- for 30 or more minutes.
- Blend all above ingredients together
- and
- add
- flours, mixing well.
- (More or less flour
- may be needed; make a fairly stiff dough).
- Knead lightly on floured board
- 4 or 5 minutes.
- Put into a greased container, turning dough
- once,
- cover
- and put in warm place free from draft.
- Allow to rise until doubled in bulk.
