Aunt Grace'S Whole Wheat Bread

  1. Cream sugar,
  2. salt
  3. and shortening; pour hot water over and stir
  4. until
  5. blended
  6. and
  7. dissolved.
  8. Cool.
  9. Meanwhile, sprinkle yeast
  10. over
  11. warm water (sprinkle a little sugar over to make yeast foam more quickly).
  12. Beat eggs, which have been at room temperature
  13. for 30 or more minutes.
  14. Blend all above ingredients together
  15. and
  16. add
  17. flours, mixing well.
  18. (More or less flour
  19. may be needed; make a fairly stiff dough).
  20. Knead lightly on floured board
  21. 4 or 5 minutes.
  22. Put into a greased container, turning dough
  23. once,
  24. cover
  25. and put in warm place free from draft.
  26. Allow to rise until doubled in bulk.
