Chocolaty Cake Pie
- 1 1/2 sq. unsweetened chocolate
- 1/2 c. water
- 2/3 c. sugar
- 1/4 c. butter or margarine
- 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1 c. flour, sifted
- 2/3 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/4 c. shortening
- 1/2 c. milk
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1 egg
- 1 unbaked 9-inch pie shell
- 1/2 c. walnuts, chopped
- Melt chocolate in water; add 2/3 cup sugar.
- Bring to boil, stirring constantly.
- Remove from heat; stir in butter and 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla. Set aside to cool.
- Sift together flour, 2/3 cup sugar, baking powder and salt.
- Add shortening, milk and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla.
- Beat 2 minutes.
- Add egg and beat.
- Pour this mixture into pie shell.
- Pour chocolate sauce over batter and sprinkle top with nuts.
- Bake in a preheated 350u0b0 oven for 55 to 60 minutes or until cake tester stuck in center comes out clean. Yield:
- 8 servings.
