Old Time Spaghetti Sauce
- 3 Tbsp. salad oil
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1 large onion, minced
- 1 lb. ground beef, crumbled
- 2 Tbsp. flour
- 1 (No. 303) can whole, peeled tomatoes (undrained)
- 2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. pepper
- 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
- 1 (4 oz.) can sliced mushrooms (undrained)
- 2 (6 oz.) cans tomato paste
- 1 (6 oz.) can water
- 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
- 1 Tbsp. sugar
- a dash of liquid hot pepper seasoning
- About 2 hours and 15 minutes before serving, in hot salad oil in a large skillet, brown garlic.
- Remove and in the same oil, saute onion until tender.
- Add crumbled meat and sprinkle in flour.
- Cook until meat is loose and a red color, stirring while cooking.
- Add remaining ingredients, stirring occasionally. Simmer, covered, 2 hours.
- If desired, serve immediately or freeze (directions below).
- Makes about 2 quarts of spaghetti sauce.
