Jam Thumbprints

  1. Stir together flour and salt.
  2. Beat butter for 30 seconds; add sugar and beat until fluffy.
  3. Add egg yolks and vanilla; beat well.
  4. Add dry ingredients to beaten mixture, beating until well combined.
  5. Cover and chill 1 hour.
  6. Shape into 1-inch balls; roll in egg whites and then roll in finely chopped walnuts.
  7. Place 1 inch apart on an ungreased cookie sheet.
  8. Press down centers with thumb.
  9. Bake in a 350u0b0 oven for 15 to 17 minutes.
  10. Cool on a wire rack.
  11. Just before serving, fill centers with preserves.
  12. Makes 36.
