Seafoam Nut Bars
- 2 c. flour
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1/8 tsp. soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. brown sugar, packed
- 1 1/2 c. brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 c. margarine
- 2 egg yolks
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 1/3 c. milk
- 2 egg whites
- 1 c. nuts, chopped
- 1/4 c. white sugar
- Blend together flour, baking powder, soda and salt.
- Do not sift; set aside.
- Cream 1/2 cup brown sugar, granulated sugar, margarine, egg yolks and vanilla thoroughly.
- Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beginning and ending with dry ingredients; mix well.
- Press into 2 well-greased 9-inch square pans.
- Beat egg whites until foamy.
- Add 1 1/2 cups brown sugar gradually, continuing to beat until soft peaks are formed. Spread evenly over mixture in pans.
- Sprinkle with nuts.
- Bake at 325u0b0 for 25 to 30 minutes.
- Cut into bars while warm.
- Cool in pans on racks.
- Makes 4 dozen.
