Basic Italian Sauce(Multi-Purpose)
- 2 to 2 1/2 lb. ground beef or combination of beef and ground turkey
- 3 Tbsp. olive oil
- 1 large or 2 small onions, diced
- 2 stalks celery with nice tops, chopped fine
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 c. chopped, fresh parsley
- 1 can mushrooms, chopped
- 1 large can stewed tomatoes
- 2 small cans tomato paste
- 2 Tbsp. mixed pickling spice
- 2 bay leaves
- 1 Tbsp. oregano
- Brown
- meat
- in
- olive oil, stirring as it browns.
- Add onions when
- almost
- done
- and
- stir and brown a little.
- Put spices
- in small pan of water and keep simmering as you cook. Combine
- meat and onions with rest of ingredients and cook on low
- heat
- for at least an hour, adding the spice water (use a tea
- strainer)
- as it is needed.
- This sauce may be frozen in pint containers and used as needed.
- May be used over spaghetti
- with
- sprinkle
- of Parmesan
- cheese.
