Homemade Bread
- 2 c. milk
- 2 c. hot water
- 1 stick margarine
- 8 to 10 T. sugar
- 4 t. salt
- 12 c. flour, divided
- 2 pkg dry yeast
- 1/2 c. hot water
- In a saucepan, scald milk and add hot water. Add margarine, sugar and salt. Stir to combine. Remove from heat and cool until lukewarm. In a bowl, soften yeast in 1/2 cup hot water. Add 6 cups flour to yeast; beat with a spoon until smooth. Add remaining 6 cups of flour. Turn out on a floured board. Knead dough about 7 to 10 minutes while continuing to sprinkle with flour. Put dough in a large greased bowl and turn dough over to coat with oil from bowl. Cover bowl with a kitchen towel and let rise until doubled, about 2 hours. Turn dough out onto counter and cut into 4 loaves. Put each loaf in a loaf pan and let rise again for about an hour. Bake in a preheated 350u0b0 oven for 35 minutes. Makes 4 loaves.
