Homemade Ketchup With Carrot (Deceptively Delicious)
- 1 (6 ounce) can tomato puree
- 1/2 cup carrot puree (baby food is quick and easy)
- 1/4 cup water
- 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tablespoon firmly packed brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
- 1/4 teaspoon chili powder (to taste)
- Stir all the ingredients together in a big saucepan and bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
- Reduce the heat and simmer until the mixture has reduced by about half, 10-20 minutes.
- Let cool before serving.
- Refrigerate in an airtight container for up to five days or freeze in 1/4-cup amounts in zipper-lock snack bags for up to three months.
