Grandma'S Old Fashioned Gingerbread
- 1 lb. brown sugar
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1/2 small bottle cinnamon oil
- 2 whole eggs
- 2 egg yolks (save whites)
- 1 1/2 oz. ground ginger
- 1/4 c. cooking oil
- 1/2 c. milk
- 4 c. self-rising flour
- 1 c. self-rising flour
- 2 egg whites
- 1 Tbsp. sugar
- Mix sugar and shortening well.
- Add ginger, cinnamon oil, eggs and cooking oil.
- Mix until all lumps are gone.
- Add milk slowly; add flour, mixing with hands or dough hooks.
- Place the cup of flour in a large bowl and lightly knead dough therein.
- Pat dough into cakes 3 to 4 inches long, or roll thin and cut into gingerbread men.
- Bake on greased cookie sheet at 450u0b0 for about 8 minutes until lightly browned.
- Beat egg whites with sugar and brush tops and bottoms before they cool.
- Serve hot with a cold glass of milk.
